Receiving fines and tickets for parking and driving in London can feel like a necessary part of the job. Our team are here to help you manage your fines and we’ve got some tips to help you avoid some of the most frequent issues. All Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs), fines, fees, tolls or charges issued to the vehicle are the driver’s responsibility.
If you receive a fine directly, it is your responsibility to pay it, whether it comes to you via email or if you have a notice placed on your vehicle. Please don’t ignore fines left on your vehicle, these often can escalate if not paid promptly and can incur additional administrative costs.
Sometimes fines and charges are sent to Moove (as the owner of the vehicle). We will transfer liability to you automatically and you will be charged an administration fee (+VAT) to cover our costs. Sometimes the local authority might reject this process, in which case, Moove will pay the fine on your behalf and recharge you.
There are lots of different types of parking tickets, they can be issued by both Private car park operators as well as Civil authorities. They can also be received automatically or distributed in person via a notice left on your vehicle.
A Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) is a penalty issued for violating parking restrictions, but can also include breaking certain traffic rules. These are normally issued by a local authority and can either be received by post or attached to your car. The most common PCNs we see are:
- Parking in restricted areas
- Driving in a bus lane
- Stopping in a yellow box junction
- Making an illegal turn
After they are issued, you normally have 28 days to pay or challenge it.
A Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) often includes a fine and occasionally penalty points on your licence. These are more serious and are most frequently issued for:
- Speeding
- Traffic light offences
- Performing restricted turns
- Not wearing a seatbelt
- Entering a “no entry” zone
These are sometimes referred to as a Notice of Intended Prosecution, you can often pay a set fine to release your liability for a conviction. If you have have any questions or concerns about a notice you have received, then feel free to contact our customer support team to discuss what you can do next.
If you do not believe a ticket has been issued fairly, you can appeal them with the issuing agency. However it is your responsibility to cover any costs this may incur.
Some of the most common fines that Moove drivers receive are for failure to pay for Airport Drop-offs and the Dartford Crossing. The simplest and cheapest way to pay for these is by using an Autopay account. The links for the most frequently used can be found below:
